I wouldn't suggest it. Oven cleaner tends to remove the finish from metals, leaving them more suceptable to staining. One thing I found that works is liquid dish washer detergent. Put some around the burner (maybe use a a toothbrush so as not to make a mess), and let it sit over night. Wipe off with a damp cloth in the morning.

This wouldn't be my first choice. We've cleaned apartments for many years now and I've had some people use over cleaner and some ranges aren't built for this type of cleaner. It will take the finish off some types of trim.
Use 409 and warm water, Dawn works well also. Be patient and use warm water and soap, let it stand. Don't use anything harsh like a Brillo pad or a green "scratch pad" this might harm the finish also.
You can buy disposable covers for this at Home Depot then you won't have this problem, you'd save some time anyhow.

Steel wool scouring pads can scratch after a while, so I only use the nylon scrubby pads to get off the big stuff. Mr Clean Magic Erasers are wonderful for this area, but sometimes there are a few burned on spots that don't want to budge. Wet the eraser with some water and use a sprinkle of baking soda as a cleanser. Works like a charm. To make it shiny, wipe with a paper towel dampened with window cleaner.

Yes it can but I usually put a little hot water on the stove top & sprinkle Comet powder & rub around, let it sit for a few minutes & remove with a green Scotch scratch pad. Works great!!!
