What are so many people opposed to the war in Iraq?
Those who are against the war are either saying or implying that:
War is not the answer...
Then what is? I have yet to hear ANYONE who claims that war is not the answer come up with an alternative. Don't misunderstand me. I wholeheartedly agree that it would be so very nice indeed if the world would just learn to get along. Come now, let's all put our guns down and be friends. I forgive you. Would you please forgive me? Peace brother, peace.
Right. Although I HATE war just as much as you, truth is, terrorists are continually seeking out ways to kill as many innocent lives as they can, and it has NOTHING to do with Bush's decision to fight terrorism. Think of Kuwait. Or Oklahoma. Terrorists are heartless ruthless people who kill because they've been brainwashed into believing that "God" approves of this. How can you convince someone to remove his suicide vest in such a circumstance? What's a Bush to do? Seriously. Please respond.

Hopefully, he will do his job and not listen to those motivated by partisan politics. Many of those expressing disgust are the same ones that talked about how his father left the monster in charge and didn't finish the job. I didn't like the idea beforehand because I thought it was too high of a risk for Americans to take on behalf of other people. I don't feel that way anymore because it was a simple matter to get rid of Saddam.

Using Americans to stabilize that country is why the vast majority of Americans have died. I don't know if it is worth it in the long run. Maybe we should close the borders and let the Shiites and Sunnis fight it out and clean up the mess afterwards. The US military is best suited for fighting and not nation building.

He should keep doing exactly as he has (except that he needs to explain things better to the public and be more careful of who he listens to) and screw the polls.

If the founding fathers had listened to polls we never would have split from England.
If Lincoln had listened to polls the emancipation proclamation never would have been signed.

Many people make the mistake of assuming that perspectives all over the world are similiar to American ones.
We hate war because we have experienced what life is like without it...but most people committing acts of terrorism have spent their entire lives in either local or regional conflicts.

We try to avoid conflict because we see it as a necesarry last resort...but our enemies have never known anything but conflict and if they didn't hate us they would find someone else to hate.

It's an unfortunate fact that many "radical" Muslims consider dying to be the only way to achieve honor. They also consider killing an infidel a very honorable act...even if innocent muslims are killed as well. How can you reason or negotiate with that?

To begin with, terrorists have always BEEN & always WILL BE- with us. As you pointed out, they can come from Oklahoma JUST as easily as from Saudi Arabia (where some of the 9/11 ones came from). So do you REALLY think sending our guys to Iraq is going to stop terrorism??! I think not. And then you have to think about WHAT terrorism really IS; it's about despair, unhappiness, injustice, religious intollerance, poverty, control, etc... -And again, our being in Iraq is not reducing that, much. So WHAT'S the point? How many thousands of our soldiers will have to die- before we finally pull out ,& let the chips fall where they may,as they WILL do someday- anyway??? If war IS the "answer", then we can save a LOT of people a LOT of unhappiness- by nuking everybody and saying we're doing it for "National Security"- & getting rid of all the terrorists. Now THAT might work. Care to "Second" the motion? :)

yeah probably war and killing as unpleasant as it may be are still probably the only thing we could possibly do... esp since the muslims are the true enemy and if they somehow went away we'd be one happy world with kindness and compassion for each other... everyone else but them have real worth and true reasons to live.Look how much better Israel is after taking their tough stance. against Palestinians.....they weren't afraid of any stupid international law or UN resolutions ..they ruthleslessly taught them whose the boss and now they have the upper hand dont they? And safety and security is finally theirs. Glad you pointed out how silly everyone is to be against war.

First of all there weren't any terrorists in Iraq until Bush invaded.Bush should admit to misleading his country and all other countries that supported him, apologize not only for the american, iraqis but the deaths of the soldiers from other countries, step down and ask UN for help.

Iraq war didn't originate because of 9/11. It helped to gain public support for it. Crap full of Iraqi dissidents like Ahmed Chalabi have begged US congress to remove Saddam since 1991 Iraq War. There was this 'regime change' policy for Iraq that was made official in 1998. Iraqis like Chalabi sold us ideas for Saddam removal. Bush bought it.

But Iraq and Al Quida was separate issue. Saddam actually didn't like outlaw organizations like Al Quida according to lot of intel. He is dictator who wants all the power. Last thing he wants is small extremists groups who doesn't care about any collateral damage.

So it is widely regarded as a mistake to combine Iraq policy and war on terror/Osama hunt.

We need to save our military for real emergencies like all out war with Iran or North Korea or whatever if it should occur. It is extremely risky to dump our resources into this type of war (Iraq) that is just simply part of our 'foreign policy.' Or Cheney might call it 1% doctrine. Basically sending our troops into battlefields on a hunch, 1% chance Saddam might have WMD.

Al Quida have networks scattered through out the world. If they find training camp I have no problem dropping couple of GPS bomb.

Don't you think it is odd they've been yelling we're fighting unconventional enemies, but we're in middle of big conventional war & occupation?

You're right it'll take some military power, but you think we'll ever be in world where everybody love USA and nobody have urge to go out blow up something? Even in peaceful nation like the US people blow up buildings like in Oklahoma, abortion clinics, unibomber...etc.

So how is this big conventional war going to stop sporadic, almost random attacks? Unless you're going for total world domination. Conquer the world.

This is like buying super super expensive lightning detector hoping you'll never get hit by lightning.

Should compare number of terror victims to regular violent domestic crimes. Which by the way have risen since 9/11. Thanks to hunt for 'Islamic terrorists.'

Stopping terrorists take very tidious effort, labor intensive intelligence work, creativity, persistence, and more. Big war in name of democracy sounds 'sexy', but it is intelligence work that will ultimately stop that crazy guy from blowing up Starbucks in some unknown small town in USA.

I guess what I'm saying is that this war on terror should not be about big flashy bang and big speech about freedom and democracy, but real war on terror is fought behind closed doors. Secret undercover operations, infiltrations...etc.

You nailed it, pal..! In a nutshell here's what you're saying -- "How do you negotiate with a mad dog?"

I don't give a hoot in hell what the US does, like end our support of Israel, get out of the mideast completely, release all convicted 'political' prisoners, beg forgiveness from the mad dog segment of Islam, etc.,. No matter what we do or don't do, these Islamic creatures have but one single, ultimate goal -- to make Islam the one global religion and to rule the world in the name of Allah.
