There used to be a birth control shot called Lunelle that was in injection form that was given on a monthly basis but it got pulled from the market about 3 or 4 years ago due to problems it was causing.

The only one still on the market right now is Depo-Provera and most women get a shot every 3 months but sometimes it can be given every month and a half (6 weeks) if it's being used to treat something like endometriosis (just giving an example here). Depo-Provera can cause one to miss a period during the time that the woman is taking it.

I would also recommend asking your pharmacist to see what they say since they are pretty up to date on the kind of medications out there.
