I know it was against the Kansas City Royals out of all teams, but he did put up a good line of... 7 IP, 6 Hits Allowed, 1 ER, 1 BB, and 10 Ks!!!

He pretty baffled the Royals with his repertoire of pitches of fastballs, change ups, breaking balls, and gyroball if it exists at all. Don't know if he used it or not.

Strong debut, but I'm not all that impressed cause it was the Royals. I want to see him pitch against the Yanks, to see if he was worth the $103 mil the Red Sox paid to talk and sign him.

I think Dice-K performance today was outstanding considering the cold weather and the effect it might have had on his curve and other off speed pitches because of the difficulty to grip the ball. I think the most positive think about his outing was the way he kept the Royals batters off balance; he mixed his pitches well all day long and had them off balance most of the game. He's going to win a lot games if he can continue to command the strike zone with his fastball, and get over his curve for first pitch strikes. I think today was just a little preview of how good he can be, not a dominating performance, but 10k's and 1ER every 5 days is something Boston hoped they get everytime out. It will be interesting to see how pitches later on in the year once he has faced teams a couple of times. One thing is for sure, his first game gets an A!

I was at the game and he looked great. Really, of those 6 hits, the only ball that was hit hard was the Home Run by DeJesus. I was more impressed with Zack Greinke's performance, though. 7 IP, 8H, 1ER, 1BB, 8K. I am a huge Royals fan, but the truth is that the Red Sox lineup is much tougher than the Royals and he had almost the same line. Greinke struck Ortiz out 3 times and did a great job of mixing his pitches up and hitting his spot. Either way, it was a great game by both pitchers. If Greinke pitches like that every outing, hes gonna give the Royals a great chance to win some ball games this year. The same goes for Dice-K also.

GO ROYALS!!!!!!!

Yes, he passed the first test. The Royals are not the doormat your question implies. The Royals swept the Red Sox in Kansas City and split with them in September in Boston. Only one of the games in Boston was a blowout, so the Royals have not been an automatic for the Red Sox. They beat on Schilling on Monday. Dice-K did what a Red Sox fan would hope for 10Ks, one earned run and seven innings. Anybody's quality start. I was on the dark side of the moon though. How did Andy Pettite do against those pushover Devil Rays?

With the $$ Daisuke Matsuzaka brings in, Redsox has already feel that he is worth the $103 mil paid for signing him.
Very strong debut for Dice-K today. Way to go.

I certainly was impressed. With all the hype, it's a wonder he could withstand the pressure. But he did. Not only was he great on the mound striking out 10 in 7 innings, but he was a flawless fielder as well. I can't wait till next Wednesday when he pitches again.

Chow!!

He was impressive for his debut. Although he is a good pitcher, he is no Roy Oswalt or Johan Santana.

At the end of his rookie season he would have a 4.15 ERA with around 10-12 wins.

He did look really good vs the Royals. Just remember that it was the Royals who have been the toilet of the AL for a long time now. Let's reserve judgement until he plays the Yankees, or somebody good.
