I know a woman who lets her 10 year old daughter put highlights and lowlights in her hair, dress like a tramp, kiss boys, hang out at movie theaters and hang out with neighborhood boys till 10/11 p.m. What the heck is going on in the world today with these parents? I just don't get why anyone would want to ruin their childs childhood like that. Opinions please.....

The majority of parents these days suck!!!!! They don't raise their children, they let the TV do it. Then they get pissed when their child sees something slightly offensive. Parents don't monitor what their child watches then complains to the FCC when their kid learns a bad word. They ruin it for everybody. Their kids show no respect to anyone, and they don't discipline them. If I acted the way that kids today do my parents would have beat my AS$.

I like that you are concerned. I counsel Youth At Risk and find that most of the time, it is the parents who are screwed up and the youth I am counseling is the symptom of the poor parenting.

I remember one mother, who learned that her 11 year daughter gave the best oral sex in her grade. The mother told me, "I was hoping she would wait until she was 13 or 14, but what can I do? Nothing, well at least she's good at something."

I work with 10 and 11 year olds -- their parents allow them to hop a Greyhound bus and ride for 90 minutes to "the City" (Portland, OR) with their buddies. These 10 and 11 years are allowed to hop the bus after school on Friday as long as they're back in town by Sunday night!

This is not a divorce situation where the kid is going down to visit dad for the week-end; they are just running the streets, hooking up with people.

I make mandated reports to Child Protective Services, but am told that the kids may be old enough.

I counsel so many parents who are afraid to step into the role of Parent. They would rather be buddies than a mom or dad.

The kids pay for it, and so does society! I wish more people were concerned like you are!

At 10 years old, taking such mature interest is quite unusual. But some parents might just see it as normal, or "it can't hurt none".

Though I agree with you that 10 years old is too young to be dressing like a Desperate House Wife and kissing boys, society has come to allow it in a sense for 13+ girls. But at 10 years old, it has to be the parents instigating it because they girl hasn't began puberty yet thus doesn't take up such interests for a couple years.

But it could be the hormones that get put in the meat now days. That could cause earlier puberty and a premature interests in teenage things. I'm a guy, but at 10 I was interested in sports, as well as thinking girls were "fun", but not quite as much fun as sports.

It really depends on the home setting and the parental imput.

Sit down and have a talk with them on why they are treating you like this. Also if you are eighteen how come your curfew is earlier than mine and i'm twelve. you should also try bringing up reasons on why you want to do something. Don't just say It's because everybody else is doing it but if your curfew 10:30 and every other persons you know is 12 am bring that up but if you have one friend that gets out till 11 don't bring it up. Ask them what they want you to do. If they don't think your responsible then prove them wrong. If the floor looks dirty clean it or if the dishes are piling up wash them. On the tattoo thing you should always think long and hard on them because they are very expensive to remove. In regards to your sleep over issues ask them what concerns they have about it. Good Luck and I hope this helps you =D.

Let me start off by saying I am 16 and I don't get what the deal is with all this pop culture bull crap that everyone in my high school is into. But i know what you are talking about just the other day my sisters friend was talking about why she needed to carry condoms around and she is only 12. Man her brother was so pissed he found one of those really old "sex is dangerous and evil" propaganda videos and made her watch the whole 2 hours of it. Now she doesn't even want to hold hands with her boyfriend. I think the moral is show your kids lies and you will get results.

I have seen and agree with everything your saying. Its crazy and the parent has to be a little illiterate to be going along with this. I see these little girls dressing like Brittney Spears, belly's hanging out and talking on cell phones. Three piercings in their ears, skirts up to their panties, etc. The parents have to be in la la land to not set some limitations on the clothes these kids wear. They don't even get what kind of message this sends to a kid and our forgetting about all the sex perverts that love little girls. Go figure.

My daughter will be 10 in August and I can guarantee she won't be doing any of those things...well maybe the highlights, but that's it! I really don't mind what she does to her hair, it is her own and she's too young to want to do anything to crazy.

This mother you are talking about is an idiot plain and simple.

Good question, and frankly I don't have an answer except perhaps that's the way the mothers were raised. The same thing holds true for parents who were abused as children. They become abusers. Anyway, I have to agree with you 100%.

AHA! Finally someone in America who has the right idea.

I agree, when I was 10, I was so sheltered from everything (even Barbie). Looks, like I turned out okay, (at least I'm sane).

It's a shame that parents care less than they did before!

you know what, my cousin has 1 year old twin boys and she lets them eat paper, pick up old candy that they threw on the floor days ago and eat it, and wrestle each other to the point where they inflict physical injuries upon each other. Seriously, one time they had nothing but diapers on and were wrestling for like 30 minutes without my cousin doing anything. Though I have to admit it was pretty remarkable and entertaining.
