I have installed entry doors, worked with drywall, done electrical work, and now am attempting to install a garage door. I have never done anything with a garage door and I have a person who wants me to install one for them. I would have to take the whole door off and replace it with a brand new one. I do not want to charge them too much, but still do not want to charge less then it's worth.

If you really know what your doing, hire someone to work with you, you'll need it. If it's a glass door it'll work better, lighter. 2 Hours doesn't sound right for the work. I've installed several and it takes a little longer than that and I know what I'm doing.
I charge 45 an hour, that covers the help.

You know what your time is worth. An overhead door replacement is usually a two-man job. Are you going to have somebody help? Add those wages in also. Make sure you know what you're doing when you adjust and loosen the tension springs. If your not sure, it isn't shameful to say "I don't know how and I wouldn't want to screw it up."

If you are installing a 7ft high door in an 8ft garage you might run into problems if you are installing a sectional. The minimum required headroom clearance is 12" without a motor operator. If you are ever planning on adding a motor operator you are going to need at least 14 1/2" headroom clearance. You can use low head room track and get the door into smaller clearances, but it is difficult to install if you haven't done it before. You might also be able to use flop kits. The best thing to do is have a garage door estimator come out and see exactly what you need before continuing. A lot of companies will send someone out at no charge.

As far as angle iron goes you will need approximately 8-10ft. That is four pieces between 10 and 12 inches. You will need one on each end of your track with a kicker. That would work for an open beam builiding with no sheet rock. If it is a sheet rocked building you will need a minimum of 2 pieces at 24 inches, to run across the door from rafter to rafter.

If you are installing a motor operator those measurements are just for a door with 12 inch radius track.

Hope this helps!
