The oil companies will give whatever reason they can to raise prices, i.e. trouble in Columbia or a battle in Iraq or it rained in Alabama. It is amazing these guys can get away with this. You have a president who was part of the oil industry. You have a VP who was part of the oil industry. 1/3 of this administration was part of the oil industry. Four of the top five highest profit producing companies in the world are oil companies. The reason your gas prices keep going up is because it is allowed to happen. These guys want to go as high as they can w/o hitting the breaking point, which would result in a ground swell of support of alternative sources of energy. I think they may have overstep however. Alternative fuel sources will be one of the top five issues in this next presidential campaign. Hopefully the next president will be a friendly to the idea of finding alternative fuel sources as this one has been to the oil companies.

Because WE keep using it up as FAST as we can. So of COURSE the big Oil companies & Oil rich countries- are going to keep jacking up the price to see how MUCH we're willing to pay for it. You think $2.50 is bad? :) How much you want to bet it's over $5.00 a gallon by 2010??? Don't think so?- It's $6.+ in most of Europe... -and they're STILL paying it. Wait & see. ...-These are our "good old days"- where the price of gas is concerned... :)

Well, prices do tend to go up in times like these , and it is a good reason to have the people who are developing " Ethanol " to keep working to make it more available - I think this is the trend of the future - it is happening all over the Far especially . Look for much more "ethanol " to be in our future

Iran-Britain stand off thing combined with seasonal change. It's little warmer now. Energy traders(who basically set price of oils) are very sensitive to every little thing in news. It's 2.99 for regular where I am.

One word -- G-R-E-E-D.....!

Who's the moron that answered your question by blaming it all on the Republicans???? Last time I checked, Slick Willy Clinton was a Democrat and I vaguely remember gas prices going up and up and up then too.
