Cracking anything dealing with your spinal column has its risks.
Cracking your neck or back can easily be done wrong.

If you happen to do something wrong, it can lead to long-term injuries. Any injuries to your spine are some of the worst things in life. Slipped discs, grinding vertebra... some of the worst stuff.

you should only let a chiropractor pop your back. They know exactly where to pop it to put it back in place. You could possibly be popping your back more out of place. I suggest the chiropractor for anyone. It feel so much better since i have been going

Yes, It can casue arthritis. Once I heard of this from numerous instructors I stopped cracking my nuckles. Now I need to stop cracking my back. Its just those damn desk are so un-comfortable.
