I got in trouble at my job over a year ago. I find it very difficult to even get an interview in the same career because of this. I invested my entire life savings to get the education for this career. I have been working in this field for 9 years, but all anyone cares about is last year, when I got in trouble. Should I find a different career which I have absolutely NO paid exerience in or continue to try to find a job in the same field where I have over 9 years experience?

How are they even finding out about you getting in trouble at your last job? By law, a former employer can not give details that would prevent any prospective employer from giving you an opportunity. If you are willingly giving this information in your interviews, then you should stop it immediately!!! When you're asked why you left your previous employer, it's better to make something up. Truth is not necessary when it comes to these things. If you are morally sensitive when it comes to lying... then yes, you need to find a different career.

It's almost impossible to answer this question without knowing why you were fired. If you were fired because you did something horrendous that became public or well-known in your field (i.e. you're a doctor and a patient died because you obviously screwed up a surgery), than it is definitely worth looking into another career. However, if you were fired for your workplace conduct rather than job performance, you should take responsibility for what happened and what you learned from the trouble IF the employer asks you directly about it.

Also, I doubt that you have been having difficulty getting first interviews because of your discharge. Unless the reasons why you were let go were publicized, an employer wouldn't have any idea why you were let go unless you told them in advance (say, in your cover letter). Most employers won't check references until after the interview and you're seriously in the running for the job. I'd just chalk that up to the tight job market these days.

You've obviously worked VERY HARD to get into your field! And that is a job in itself! If you still have a passion for what you have worked so hard on, continue to work in it! Don't let a bad experience at a job stop you. Find ways to build upon your experience and land another great job you can grow with as you did with your previous one! You have the drive to get where you want, so you can use that and get to the next big place!

Don't worry, you have experience, education, and motivation! You already have what it takes to nail a position!

If you have any interests in other fields, do some research and see if anything catches your eye! But in the mean time, make sure you continue to work so that you don't have a period of "unemployement" when you can avoid it!

Good luck and be positive! =)

What kind of trouble did you get in???? Did you steal or plagarize or insult a customer or what?

People do choose the wrong career. Perhaps what you need to go is be honest with yourself exactly why you were fired!

Regardless what field you work in, you have to list your prior employment and why you left the job. Perhaps the best thing you could do is move and then find a new field.

I don't know why you got fired some of us have been fired for no real reason just didn't like us, others were fired for steeling and thats will stop you at any job so will drug abuse. But if you like your job or you like what you do then figure a way to deal with the place you got fired, if it was not there for the 9 years. Look at rush Limbaugh He got fired 7 times and he stuck to it and I don't need you to tell you what he's worth. You have what it takes you just got to find the right place, and the right things to say.

you should find a career that you like... maybe you should try to find a job in the same field where you have experience as people may not want to hire you if you do not have experience in it..

If he quits he can not record for unemployment. If he starts off getting unfavourable factors and gets fired he can record for unemployment. the business organization could attraction it and the state moderator will could desire to verify. I wouldnt trouble lots with regards to the paintings reference because of the fact that a production unit job is unlikely help with a actual belongings job.

sounds like a pretty serious event. my usual advice in this case is to put a positive spin on it. for example, one time I left a company with 1 week's notice. the reason i used is that the company was incredibly unrealistic about budgeting and spending and did not have enough funding to meet the goals I was hired for.
