A TV is the most common thing available these days, and for the President of the USA to watch it while on move is a simple thing that his assistants could have managed. Do not be suspicious on such silly points with misplaced enthusiasm to know the unknown probabilities.

Being the Commander in Chief has it's perks, like getting the news before it airs. He probably saw the footage on a CIA feed, thinking it was a "terrible accident", like he stated in the video, then was told about the second crash in the class. The footage of the second plane hitting was played all day and I believe there was a couple of angles, added to the terrible event itself, you can't deny that it would be easy to be confused, 3 months later no less.
