we all know that american idol is a load of bull. kelly clarkson was the only real success that came out of the show, the rest all went back to whatever pathetic life they had before joining. if sanjaya wins the contest, it would finally mean the end of American Idol.
FYI dont kid yourselves into thinking that the other contestants voted off before sanjaya had a legitimate shot at winning. we all know that either jordin or the other 2 black girls who can really sing is gonna win.

American Idol is the new Star Search. The main difference is that Star Search featured more than just singing. It combined dancing, speaking, stand-up comedians, etc...Ray Romano (Everybody Love Raymond) and Dave Chapelle came from there, just to name these two. Star Search helped launch careers!
American Idol provides a platform to talented people to hang in there and get a level of exposure they would probably not get on their own (lack of self-promotion knowledge or lack of funds or both). For some, this is the ONE shot they have at getting noticed.
You're right, most of the idols go right back to obscurity once the show's over, as far as we know...Just because they're not selling top 40 cds doesn't necessarily mean that they didn't benefit from the show and that their careers went down the toilet.
It is sad to see a much less talented boy steal the Thunder from some much deserving, dedicated, real singers. For those who think the show's a joke, look past Simon's nasty remarks to the contestants and listen to some of them and how they tackle unfamiliar charts and scores each week to prove themselves. They compete to go the distance!
Simon (I don't even like the guy's ways) looses nothing if Sanjaya wins. He was succesful before Idol and will continue to be a wealthy producer and creator when Idol is over. The losers if Sanjaya wins and tarnishes the show's credibility are the potential hopefulls from small towns and large cities who see this as their ticket to their fifteen minutes...or more, if they're lucky.

Why do you want to see the end of American Idol? It gives those with singing talent a chance to achieve their dream. Just because American Idol has been the number 1 show since it started, you join those people who are envious of its success and wish its downfall. That is mean. That is not nice.
Contestants at the American Idol are supposed to be judged primarily on their singing ability and Sanjaya should have been eliminated long time ago, even prior to the selection of the 24 finalists. I do not know the kid and maybe he is a really good guy, but he does not deserve to be where he is right now at the American Idol.

i only hope that sanjaya will win because it will mean that finally American Idol lost all credibility and maybe people will stop watching it and it will go off the air and Simon will have to come up with some other lame idea to make millions off of us. No, actually I think American Idol could have been a good thing, like star search, but it is a lot of bull now. And Sanjaya may have a bit of talent for entertaining, but more as a comedian than as a singer.

ok your wrong about kelly clarkson being the only successfull one. carrie underwood is one of the best female country singers and she won american idol two years ago. another really successfull person is kellie pickler. she didnt even win and she already has more number one hits then the other actual winners. and about sanjaya no i dont hope he wins he is not a good singer at all. i want melinda to win

I am supporting sanjaya, but I don't think previous winners went back to being "nothings" -- they have had quite a bit of success.
