all my life i have had trouble talking to people. In elementary school most of my teachers thought I was an idiot and I was constantly ridiculed by other students and I rarely talked to people. When I went to middle school many of the same students followed me and I found it no easier to talk to people. Eventually I decided that there is no sense in worrying about the fact that I have trouble talking to people, but rather just go about my life and not talk to people since I feel like I can't and not worry about it. But should I really be doing this? I mean I just really feel like I can't talk to people unless they talk to me. I know my brother has mild autism, so maybe I have it in some form? And I really want a bf, so I was wondering if there are any guys around age 21 in PG county Maryland or points south who are like me. Maybe we might have something in common. I don't care about race or anything.

Actually, for the first person who commented, autism does not equate stupid. My step son is autistic and is able to function normally.

You may be slightly autistic, however, with guidance and support you can get help with meeting people, even if it's not autism.

You shouldn't be pressured to have a boyfriend right away. Just let things happen naturally. Even if you do go out and find just some guy who's to say that the relationship will be what you want? Trust me, this is certainly not the most important thing in life. Focus on things that are important to you and the right guy will come along.

Why only boys? Couldn't you be friends with a girl as well? You sound like a really smart kid. Do you belong to a church or temple? Sometimes your local church/temple will have clubs of kids like yourself and you will connect with someone that you're comfortable with. Don't feel like a social cripple because the mean kids at school did a number on you. Kids are mean! Now you're out of school so you don't have to be subjected to those losers anymore. Go find your BF, they're out there somewhere...don't give up. Good luck.

The fact that your writing this ,makes you e seem intelligent. you are very bright and smart ...don,t let anyone tell you otherwise. I know what you you are going thru.. My brother has down syndrome and everyone thinks I,m an idiot because of him. I love my brother soooo much but nobody can accept him... sucks for them! if you want to talk you can e-mail me at ::milbestice1@yahoo.com

There is no indication in your post, despite what anyone else might say, that you have autism. You sound perfectly normal to me.

That said, check out this guy, just for fun. His name is Daniel Tammet. http://60minutes.yahoo.com/segment/44/brain_man If that's what autism is like, then who needs normal?

Dear Erica, as you meet other friends, work on your shortfalls. We all have them.
If what you are looking is just a date, please do not look.
