For example, if there's an 8.5" by 11" paper with font 7 posted in the hallway of a dorm, is it considered a legal notice which would be considered proper notification of a certain dorm rule?

Or, if one hasn't signed a sheet saying he or she has reviewed or agreed to a certain rule, how could they be held against a person if not clearly posted (e.g. via a large poster in the lobby numbered 1, 2, 3, etc.)?

Furthermore, common sense would seem to dictate that posting 500 words or so in tiny font is extremely unlikely to be read and therefore should not be considered public notice. Common sense would similarly seem to dictate a minimum font size that can be easily read by the vast majority of the population, in order for a notice on the wall to be considered legal. I really don't know anything about the laws on this matter.

I guess the question is, "Which public notices are people legally required to be aware of?" or "How are these determined?"

Thanks

For most legal matters (name changes, adoptions, etc) a public notice has to be published in a local newspaper with so many people subscribing to it. It usually has to be the county recorder (a special newspaper that specializes in legal notices). Your notice must be published so many times over a set period to be considered legally done.

Consult your public library for the name of the newspaper and call them about placing the notice. The will have the experience and will make it as easy as possible.

For rules on campus policies, consult student government for answers or spend the time examining the schools charter and bylaws.

I doubt it. If i remember correctly from law school these kinds of things are legal as long as they are "conspicuous."

i could be frightened of a few pedophile grabbing me, dragging me right into a gloomy nook and raping me or something. yet optimistically that may not happen to me. Or all of us else, for that matter.
