Dick was Bruce Wayne's ward...
And Ward was a little hard on the Beaver last night...

Robin was just a pain in the a s s circus trapeze dude who just wouldn't go away. As clingy as he was, he was also very sensitive and Batman didn't want to hurt his feelings by telling him to get bent. Good move on Batman's part because Robin actually turned out to be a pretty cool dude

Robin was just Batman's bait.... to throw off the bad guys. Also batman needed an extra hand in case he was trapped or in dangered. Robin wasn't really needed for combat.... he was just an accomplice in case of emergencies
