13-16 is a good estimate.. could be later too, everyone's different. You're born with a certain "timetable" built in, and then there's other factors like your weight, activity level and even nutrition that could affect it. If you don't know about clinics yet, go ask your school's nurse or guidence councelor to recommend someone you can talk to. I didn't start till I was 17, and didn't really completely 'develop' till i was in my 20's. there's no rush.

Ahhhh, I wish you were my neighbor so I could help you!!! First of all, there is no normal time to get it. I got mine when I was 10. My best friend was 14. Athletic girls might be 16 before they get theirs. Buy some pads. You just peel the sticker off and place it on your panties. It might take you a few times to learn just where it goes. Buy the night time pads for bedtime so you don't leak. I wish they had those when I was a teenager. I had to wear 3 pads at night! One in the front and two in the back!!! Just keep that on until there is a good amount of blood on it, then peel it off, roll it up, wrap it in tissue and put on a clean one. I like to take a water bottle in with me to rinse myself off. Nothing worse than dried blood down there!!! The first couple of years that you have it, you might have bad cramping during and even the first couple of days before your period. Mine even goes into my legs sometimes. Just take some advil, or ibuprofen. A heating pad helps, too. Don't use tampons while you are still a virgin. You just keep doing everything like you always do. Just make sure to keep a pad with you. You can buy the thin maxies which are more comfortable, less bulky. They sell the ones with wings, which I don't really like so much but you might. Just try a few kinds until you find what you like. Once your period starts, don't be alarmed if it doesn't come the next month. It can take a while for your body to get on a regular schedule. Once it does, you should expect about 3 weeks with no period in between. When mine stops, I count 21 days on the calendar to see when I am due for my next one. It is usually within 1 day of that. You'll be o.k.... Do you have a friend you are close with that you can talk to her mom about it? Or a teacher you are close with?

Anywhere from the age of 9 - 18. usually, if you have not had your period by 18, you should see a doctor.
Cousin 9 years old
Cousin 11 years old
Sister 13 years old (she came on before me by 5 years and she is younger than me. Out of 7 girls in the family, I was the oldest and the last to have my period)
Me 18 years old
P.S. I did not want to come on my period. I prayed every year to God that I would not have one until I was 18 years old and realized that it is natural and something I would have to endure being a women. I then came on my period and have hated it ever since.

This can happen anywhere from 10-16 or later. We are all different.
Surely your school has a nurse on staff or at least a visiting nurse. I sincerely hope you will have a talk with her and get some legitimate information. If you don't have a nurse, surely you have hygiene classes. Don't be embarrassed. That's what they are there for.

As long as you're healthy, a normal girl could get her first period anytime between the ages of about 11 and 16.
It will come in its own time.
As for what to do, your best answer is to go to a clinic and talk to a nurse about it. She can help you understand what you need to know and do.

don't worry I'm 13 and i just got mine 4 days ago for the first time so im kinda new at it but some of my friends got theirs in 5th grade and others who are 14 haven't gotten it yet my mom got hers when she was 15 so everyones different i didn't really want to tell my mom but you have to she was excited that i got it and actually but me pants as a celebration lol idk parents are weird but she also went out and bought me a ton of pads which are just like things you use to absorb your period and you stick it to your underwear i live with my dad and not my mom so when i told my mom she called my dad and he came to me and said don't worry because he used to have to buy her "supplies" all the time. so yeah it is a little akward at first but it's better to tell them, and everything turned out good for me in the end
also you get discharge 6 months to a year before you get your period which is just a clear, white substance that your body secreates
