I usually never carry cash on me. I always use my debit card, but I need to buy a money order along with sending a package out so it would be really conveinent if I could do both with a debit card. I can always go to the bank and get money out which I will do if I have to, but would prefer to use my debit card if I can.

In the U.S. at the post office you can. You must use it as a pin purchase you can not run it as signature purchase. Just a note the card does not need a Visa or MasterCard symbol. It can just have the atm logos Star, Nyce, Visa Interlink, and Maestro. (Not sure if Maestro work's at the U.S. post office)

International Money orders may need cash.

However, some post offices may not have the debit card system.

Not sure about the Post-office but most major grocery stores
will take the Debit card located at the end of the check-out
lanes in the mini-office. Most major grocery stores carry money - orders.

As a general rule, no you must buy a money order with cash. Now you might be able to get around that by purchasing something and getting cash back during the purchase in the amount that the money order is to be for.
