Acting was way less physical. In Shakespeare's time, women could not be seen on stage (female parts were played by younger men or boys) and homosexuality was illegal. So, if a man and a boy kissed (even if the boy was pretending to be a girl), they'd both get arrested. This is why there are so few scenes where characters are physically kissing, touching, etc, and why the vast majority of romantic action is entirely in words. It is still a mystery how they got away with certain plays, such as Romeo and Juliet and Coriolanus, that deliberately and inevitably discuss characters kissing, embracing, et cetera. Notice that that doesn't happen often.
On the modern theater side...pretty much every show nowadays involves somebody making out with somebody else, and it often goes even further than that. (see Dan Radcliffe's current acting job for details...)

Shakespeare's original company was called the Chamberlain's Men. After King James came in, it was changed to The King's Men. All the actors were men. There was no scenery--it was all done with costumes, music, and props. The plays were all 5 acts. Most plays now just have 2 or 3 acts.

The audience stood in Shake's Globe theater, now a days we sit. Performances were in the day no night because of lighting. There were no stage lights, now there are, scenery was minimal then, now it can be quite elaborate and maneuvered on/off stage electronically can be made of all sorts of synthetic materials. Most operations done via computers.Scripts are duplicated by copier machines so every one has one. In those days they were hand written so doubt everyone had one. Costumes hand made vs machine made. Some things the same: the passion of the actors and the language retained!
