You probably have the letters 'psych' in mind, not 'phych'.
Psychiatry: A branch of medicine dealing with the study and treatment of mental illnesses.
Psychic: A person receptive to things that are normally beyond the realm of human perceptions. (There are also other meaning to this word.)
