They are not depending on how you wear them. Thongs are bad to wear if they can be seen through your clothes or stick out of the top of your pants. They take some getting used to but they are cute and sexy if worn correctly.

When you first wear them they feel a bit funny but you soon get used to them.
Regarding all the cheap, skank, can't wear them with skirts etc. That is not the problem with the thong but the style of the person wearing them.
As regards to the infection problems, that is due to personal hygiene and the fabric worn over the private regions. Choose a fabric that doesn't breathe and you risk infection; no matter what the style of the underwear is.

They aren't...I have been wearing thongs for years, and I love them. Yes they take some getting used to,, but once you do they are soooo comfy. Plus, no panty lines when you wear tight pants.

I've worn thongs before and they're really not that bad...everone says the're really uncomfortable and they make you look like a skank...but as long as you're not flaunting your thong....there's nothing wrong with wearing one.

Well, put frankly: bacteria from your butt transfers into your vagina, which can cause yeast infections.
I still wear thongs, but just try not to wear them EVERYDAY and keep yourself extra clean.

I asked my doctor the same question... he said bacteria can travel from your anus to "other areas" and cause infections. That sounds awful. Victoria Secret has some lovely no show briefs- I think I'll stick with those!

supposedly they give you yeast infections, but i don't believe that. as long as you stick to 100% cotton panties you can wear whatever style you want, its when you get into polyester and other "fake fiber" territory that you run the risk of yeast infections, in any style panties.
other than that, its all personal preference.

The underwear? They just can be uncomfortable if you're moving around a lot.

The stinky butt floss angle makes them bad.
