If you already have a 360, there's absolutely no point to upgrade to the Elite unless you really need the 120 gb hard drive and/or the HDMI.

For those who's buying the 360 for the first time, the Elite becomes a much better option than the premium. Maybe that's MS's plan in the first place. Get new customers to buy the Elite instead of the premium, and maybe to trick customers into thinking that the Elite is just as good as the PS3.

There is no point in buying the Elite unless you are a new customer. If you already have a Xbox there is no point in buying it. If you ask me, the Xbox is overpriced and the PS3 is underpriced. When the Elite comes out, it will only have a HDMI output and a bigger harddrive and will cost $479. The 20GB PS3 will cost just $20 dollars more and will include Blu-Ray playback, Bluetooth and more. A stand-alone Sony Blu-Ray Player costs $1000!!! The PS3 is clearly the better buy. Microsoft is just hoping that people will buy the Elite because it has a bigger harddrive, and a HDMI output. I also think that this is Microsoft's way of keeping the Xbox competitve with Sony. Microsoft wasn't ready to release the 360 back in 2005, that was way to early, they just wanted to jump ahead of Sony.
