I always fill it up all the way, then sometimes I add about an eighth of a cup more. I use Gain with the softener in it and more makes it smell better and feel softer. Wouldn't recommend it to someone with detergent allergies though. LOL.

2.5 cups. i'm obsessed with the smell and i like watching the machine fill up with bubbles.
and then at least two cups of softener... you can imagine how much i spend on doing laundry.

I use it per directions-- I have a front loader- and it makes a mess if I use too much.
