The same elements that possess serial killers to repetitively kill. The stalker (or killer) wants to own or possess something he/she cannot have. The fact that the stalker/killer cannot have something they want leads them to want to control or dominate the person they're fantasizing about. There is intense jealousy, perhaps even rage that the person pursued is not in the stalker/killer's possession. Most stalkers are looking for things in their victims that aren't tangible.. beauty, intelligence, friends, etc. that they wish to acquire for themselves. When they stalk or kill, they "act out" their wish to possess the pursued's quality or traits that are out of reach. That is why stalker/killer behavior doesn't make sense to most people. For example, Jeffery Dahmer admitted during a video interview that he kept body parts of the people he killed to possess "even a part of them" in order to totally control or dominate the person. The need for total control is the common thread.

A very unhappy unfulfilled life. In real life they feel inadequate, they were probably not that popular and they hide behind an avatar and feel of great importance to get somebody suspended. They are hiding behind a masquerade. Its all a power trip for the underprivileged.

How about jealousy? I have had a stalker..and it wasn't a new person...but, a regular on here...I knew who she was...and because I always spoke of it but never said who? I don't get it as much from her...
They don't like losing their popularity...obsession to see how miserable they can make someone else besides themselves so miswerable....

An unhealthy obsession, lack of respect and fuel for instigation. I've had 2 stalkers online, and thankfully, they have been taken care of.

Obviously being really bored. Stalkers have no life and must follow someone elses. Sad, huh?

Infatuation mixed with boredom, insecurity and maybe a little bit of Don Quixoteism?
