I would take it as he gets tempting offers a lot by other women but he really does like or love you so he won't cheat. I guess what he said sounds better than saying, "I'm not going to cheat on you if you happen to be worried about that."

He is trying to convinse you of being able to trust him It is his way of trying to win you over to his way of things. It is nice to hear the words, but I would say action can speak louder than any words can,

He is trying to tell you he is a good guy and won't hurt you. Men don't like to come out and say that as they don't like to be labeled as a "good guy". He is also letting you know that he really likes you, it's now your turn to step up or out.

Actions speak louder than words. How long have you known him? His track record should tell you. If you just met him than he would have to earn it.
