there are only 3 fish in the tank and i dont know which ones are male or female. what will happen to the eggs if they are not fertilized? is there anything i can do to get them fertilized?

Fertilized eggs will remain nearly clear while sterile or unfertilized eggs will turn milky white and quickly fungus. The parents are usually good about removing any sterile eggs as they turn white. The eggs would have to be fertilized within a minute or so of being laid, so there is nothing what so ever you can do one way or the other. Both parents should be guarding the eggs and chasing away the third fish. If that's not happening the female may have laid the eggs without a male participating at all, sometimes they do that. If they didn't get fertilized, she will most likely eat them. If not and you don't have a catfish type, you may have to get them out so the fungus won't spread. Her tube will usually take a few days to retract.
