oh my have i been around and around with this one!! i have a 7month old and she's the exact same way, i started her on solids and then she was always constipated and went from being an angel to crying and fussy all day!
with each feeding of solids i give her, i mix in about a tablespoon or two of prunes. even with cereal and i use oatmeal cereal and that is less constipating then the others. also don't give bananas they are very constipating and if your baby will take water try to give him about 4oz a day. but the prunes work wonders...this is the absolute only thing that worked for my baby
GOOD LUCK HOPE BABY FEELS BETTER I KNOW THE FEELING!

I presume you consulted your pediatrician first? Because in some cases constipation can just be a symptom for something else! Be especially alert when your daughter starts vomiting! Don't use laxatives without a consult first!

And for the rest a fiber-rich diet, as described above (more vegetables and fruit, whole meal bread), lots of fluids, and much exercise. But again, if the symptoms don't improve after a couple off days, consult your pediatrician! Also if the symptoms come back regularly.

i had this problem with both of my kids. this was a tip from my grandmother and it worked wonders. (i checked with my Dr. and she said that it was perfectly fine)

put about 1 tsp of "Kyro Syrup" in a 6 oz bottle of warm water. (you can find this in the baking isle at grocery) The dark works best but the light will work also. It is very sweet so child will like drinking it. If you can't find the Kyro Syrup, plain sugar water works pretty well also.

usually within in about 3-4 hours (sometimes sooner depending on the severity of the constipation) my kids would have a nice and easy BM.

whatever you decide to try, give your doctor a call and make sure he/she is ok with it first.

Prune juice always works for my daughter, however, since everyone else has answered the same way, I'll try to list more ideas! Someone else said applesauce but since that's part of the BRAT diet for diarhea, I'd skip it. Try oatmeal for fiber or a tiny bit of mineral oil. Also try sitting her in a warm bath to soften the stool. It's a bit gross but I've read that you can massage the anal opening gently with petroleum jelly to make hard bowel movements more comfortable. Good luck to you!

My daughter had constant problems with constipation. Until she was 4 yrs old.

Milk of Magnesia...works great and she/he will not become dependent on it. Per the doc.

Everyone has the same good answers. I have used prune juice and apple sauce on both of my girls and it worked. If it gets really bad you might have to go to the drug store and get a baby supository, but I hope for your sake the prune juice works, because turst me having to give you child a supository is not fun. Good luck!

I used to keep baby food prunes on hand; Gerber makes them. I'm not a big fan of fruit juices, they tend to be pretty high in sugar which isn't ever good. Best of luck; hope your baby feels better!

prunes and lots of water. if she is forcing but the poop can't come out, use a q-tip doused in vaseline and just "tickle" her passageway to make it easier for her to pass the stool. if it's a chronic problem, it could be not enough water or fiber in her diet or milk or formula that doesn't agree with her.

Sugar water works wonders. Also there is an over the counter liquid drops you can give but I can't think of the name off the top of my head but your local pharmacist would know. I believe they are called Milicon Drops (or something like that).

Straight apple juice, undiluted. And someone said to cut back on grains, bananas, and cheese.... don't do that, those are part of a well-balanced diet. A good diet will keep your child regular. Good luck!
