What is the message of the story? I mean what did the peopl e in the future need from us?

Everyone needs something, or wants something. I'm sure the government of the future just "needs" (wants) to know these things because it might somehow better their existance. But in fact, messing with the past only annihilates their total existance.

The same things we need from our past. If someone in the 1800s asked this question then WE would be the future.
