hi bob! yes u can - download the song from itunes, then do the following to locate the song and then drag-and-drop copy onto ur usb hard drive:

1. click start button
2. click "my music" folder
3. click iTunes folder
4. click iTunes Music
5. then click into the artist's folder and locate the song file

if your end-goal here is to play the songs in an audio player that is *not* an ipod, then here's how u do this:

1. burn songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store songs to CD (in itunes, make a playlist, add songs to the playlist, then right click on the playlist name and choose "burn playlist to disk")
2. import songs into music player of choice (winamp, windows media player, etc)
3. copy songs to ur music player of choice

once u get this going on, please please subscribe to my FREE video podcast on iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=183309259
