For the most part, and for most people (including some mathematicians, it seems) Maths purely adds to the understanding of beauty.

We can calculate the width of the eyes, height of eye line compared to the face, position of the arch of an eyebrow and thus construct a more beautiful face.

We can understand the reflected and radial symmetries in the world around us.

We can "see" and study the fractal intricacies of nature.

But for some people, maths adds a beauty all of its own.

The Mandelbrot set and the pretty colours of fractals have already been pointed out above.

There is a certain beauty and elegance inherent in the mathematics itself.

Ask a university level group of mathematicians to prove Pythagoras' theorem and you will get a bunch of different answers. Most will be the same and mundane. Some will be messy and meandering. A few will be elegant - perhaps even beautiful - with logic, numbers and patterns all coming together to follow a path of logic to its conclusion.

There is the same beauty in maths that there can be in a pretty checkmate in a chess game, an elegant one-two-three combination in the boxing ring, the golf shot that miraculously retrieves a dodgy position, a slick fake - in - slam dunk in basketball ... it's one of those things that if you have an appreciation for it you can say it goes beyond being technically good - it's beautiful.

Maths is a way of communication. Some people would go so far as to call it a language. As with all other languages it is possible to express something in an ugly or crude way. It is possible to express something in a beautiful way. But this sort of beauty is about how a person relates to the concepts or sounds or images involved.

Maths adds to the beauty of the things that exist in the world for those who can see it. Without it, we wouldn't even have the concept of adding to the beauty.

fractals are pretty. Go to google images and type in fractals. Plus, it is seen a lot throughout the environment and the world. Fractals are used in faux mountian designing (see wikipedia), some flowers have designs of fractals, and animals even. There is a book titled "Analytical and Physical Chemistry of Environmental Systems" about the importance/use of fractals in the environment. check it out.

do you ever get that feeling once you seem at something attractive which you and that i are merely small and uncontrolled of the international around us? like the very info of a bloomed flower, the or the potential of a thunderstorm? there is something larger that has the potential and information that we've not got and could in no way understand thoroughly. believers in God see that those issues are probably to no longer be in basic terms a random effect from the international being formed. if the international replaced into formed by potential of a few explosion or a random happening, why could we see such attractiveness? God gave us some attractive issues to stand in awe observing. it fairly is almost as though we seem into such attractiveness, we are able to work out God. faith is a marvelous element, from time to time, i'm getting goosebumps as quickly as I see something attractive that i will sense God in. like the voice of a singer sounding like an angel, the spirit of young ones on Christmas, the bright loyalty of my therapy canines, or in line with risk an common rose. confident, there are grotesque issues in this international, inclusive of loss of existence, mass destruction, organic mess ups, yet those issues additionally deliver forth attractiveness lower back. there is love and togetherness whilst others come to help those in choose. God helps those issues to happen to the international, yet he does not DO THEM to the international. there's a distinction. He does, regardless of the undeniable fact that, positioned the force and love into human beings to care and help others whilst they are in choose. it fairly is to no longer say this PROVES God exists, because of the fact no longer something does instruct he exists: faith is concept with out seeing.

Mathematics is the same in every country. - Each calculation equals a specific answer wherever you go and you get the same answer wherever you go. This makes it beautiful because you don't have to learn new calculations, just the numbers of the language.

I'm a mathematician, and I agree with Smile. mathematics can describe beauty, but never adds to or takes away from it.
