To know what reality is we have to also understand what fantasy is. For me it's simple to explain. Reality is: I have four children who are constantly asking questions and wanting everything they seem. Fantasy is: Four children asleep by 8:30.

Reality is: My job sucks and more often than not I have to work overtime at a job I hate. Fantasy is: 3:00pm comes one hour after 7:00am during the week and weekends never end.

Reality is: My female dog needs to be spaded before my male dog gets his cookie wet. Fantasy is: No dogs.

Reality is: My mother-in-law comes by everyday to critisize everything about me. Fantasy is: My mother-in-law is a deaf mute who loves to stay at home.

Reality is: My ex-wife is hated by my current wife even though they have never actually spoken to one another. Fantasy is: Being alone without a 1st or 2nd wife and laughing at all the suckers who got married.

Reality is: For a family of six to eat out we must visit the cheapest place on Earth, McDonalds. Fantasy is: My children are grown up, rich, and taking my wife and I out to eat at fancy restuarants.

Reality is: Cartoons are on 24 hours of the day which means it's close to impossible to get a child to fall asleep when Scooby Doo hasn't solved the mystery yet. Fantasy is: 30 years ago TV actually went off the air at midnight and it was just fuzzy till the next morning, give that back to me.

Reality is: I get a birthday cake for every birthday when I like pies much better. Fantasy is: PIES.

Reality is: There's bread but no cheese, there's jelly but no peanut butter, there's cereal but no milk, there's baby food for the baby but the baby doesn't want baby food. Fantasy is: Cans of Raviloi and gallons of Cool-ade.

Reality is: Our friends are all married with kids so there's never a visit without someone crying (usually the parents). Fantasy is: A 24 hour day care center.

Last one.

Reality is: Taxes are due, bills are past due, my wife is due, and a vacation is over due. Fantasy is: Morning dew, Mountain Dew, Golf dues, and da doo run run run da doo run run.

We know rejoin our question in progress.

Reality means something different to every person. I'm not sure if someone can truly be mad; why is our version of reality more valid than theirs?

There's a general sense of what's real, but the same events can be experienced in very different ways and are therefore different to each person.

My reality is...me. I don't know what's happening half the time, but I do my best anyway.

Ditto Don H. He has explained the basis of how it all works; in short reality is what you do with the illusion he explained, then that becomes your reality.

This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.

This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.

At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.

We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.

These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.

From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.

I hope that helps to answered your question.

Love and blessings Don
