Self consciousness is what we are and need to be purposeful responsible social creatures endowed with reason. Perhaps you are experiencing the reflexive double self controlling disturbance. The Will is positive and the Judgment is negative. Remembering the genesis for your Judgment may help to restore Judgment to its servile place in the Soul and the Will into its superior positive identity.

Being self-conscious gives us humans the joy of dreading our own mortality for our entire lives-then it allows us to experience death with consciousness. Self-consciousness also gave us the faculty to experience life more fully than other animals and allowed humans to seek understanding. I conclude it is a good thing until it becomes a bad thing when you experience pain and then die.

Self-consiounsness is an emotional response that steers us to what society wants us to be. If that is what you want, it is not a bad thing. If not, there may be an issue. It is one of the world's ways of controlling your behavior.
