6. You list all the factors of each:
12: 1,2,3,4,6,12
90:1,2,3,5,6,9,10,15,30,45,90

Then you check each one for the highest in both. This time it's 6.

Both numbers are obviously divisible by 3 -- so take that factor away

12/3 = 4
90/3 = 30

Both of these numbers are even -- so divide them by 2

4/2 = 2
90/2 = 45

It is more obvious that 45 and 2 have no common factors.

Now take the factors we found and multiply them together -- 2*3 = 6

the greatest common factor for 12 and 90 would be the highest number that would go into both of them and it would be 6. because 6 can go into 12 twice and into 90 15 times.that's the greatest common factor/gcf.

6
rewrite as prime factors

12 = 2 * 2 * 3
90 = 3 * 3 * 2 * 5

they share a 2 and a 3 so 2 * 3
