That's actually not too bad of an analogy.

And to answer Stezus ... have you even HEARD of Al Gore? Here is a guy that wastes more gas and electricity in just ONE of his mansions .. in ONE month ... than most families use in a year. And for some reason he still believes he's an environmentalist just because he occasionally drives a Prius (after getting out of his private gas guzzling jet) and buys a few carbon offsets. Al Gore is a Hypocrite .... the inconvenient truth is that if he really believed the manure he's shoveling he'd sell his mansions and his jet and live in a modest house and fly commercial ... heck ... he could even fly first class if he wanted to and we'd still be better off.

It really depends. If you're practicing energy conservation in your life then its a great extra step to offset what you do use. I doubt anyone not practicing conservation would go to the effort of purchasing carbon offsets.

Not quite. Indulgences were sold for actual SINS. I agree with your point. Selling credits only results in raising money for whoever sells them.

So then take a bus or another form of mass transit. Don't leave the water running when you brush your teeth. Turn your lights off when you leave the room.
