You'll definitely want to get that checked. The absence of a period usually points to a hormone problem, like thyroid disease or low levels of estrogen. A blood test can likely figure out what is (and maybe what's not) causing it.

There are many factors as to why your periods are irregular. Age is one. If you just started having periods, they'll be irregular for a while until your body grows.
If you are, say, an adult, then there are many factors like stress that can affect your period, as well as birth control.
I know you said you haven't had sex, but you didn't say anything about being on birth control, just starting or stopping it, and what type. If you are on birth control, starting it can affect your periods just as much as stopping the BC. Also, depending on what type you are on, the pill or Depo (the shot), that can affect it as well. I was on Depo for about a year my first time, then only about 6 months my second time on it, with about a year or so in between. Both times on it, my periods stopped completely, then would vary off and on for months after stopping the shots. I'm currently off depo, been off it for a year now, and my periods are still irregular. They were really heavy for several months, now they are almost non-existant to light spotting, to light bleeding.
The body is very sensitive to changes. Obviously it's bothering you. Talk to your doctor. They might put you on BC to help regulate your period, if you want it.

Your body changes every 7 years so it could be messing with your periods. Have you had a recent loss or gain in weight? any stress or trauma?
Before I went on birth control pills I'd have a normal cycle for a couple months and then nothing for a few months, then normal for a few months and then totally messed up again.
I'd go to the doctor and maybe look into birth control pills to regulate it.

How old are you? Because if you just started recently, it can go away for a while. At least, that's what happened to my friend. She got her first one, then for about six months it didn't come again. The doctor said that was normal.
If that's not the case, I definatley think that a doctors visit is a good idea.

Definetly go to the doctor. It may be that you have a hormone imbalance which is easily treated with birth control or something else. Also if you are under a lot of stress it can prevent your period from starting.

If you have been exercising vigorously, or are under extreme stress, your period may have stopped because of this. Also, very low body fat percentage (lower than 10-12% in women) can cause the amount of estrogen your body stores to go down, and therefore menstruation can stop.

Go to a doctor. If you have been on a diet, you might not be getting enough iron, so your blood supply is low. If your period started less than a year ago, it might be normal.

Some girls have very irregular periods, but I would still go to your an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) and she might order an ultrasound to see if everything is normal inside. Please do not worry. Whatever you have is probably not life threatening, but the doctor needs to watch it.
