I really like the song "Here Comes a Regular" but I can't quite come to a conclusion of what a regular is. Any one have any ideas? (Sung by The Replacements)

A regular means customary, usual or normal. And in this instance a regular here refers to the fact, that he's no special or particular person. He's just an ordinary or the everyday or average guy. That he is a constant part or member of the ensemble or group. He's neither a temporary guest or substitute nor a replacement. He's always there or he's there to stay; like a regular fixture; until he's fired. He's a habitual customer. Regular is commonly used when creating a theoretical situation with which to make generalized assumptions.

A "regular" in this instance definitely refers to a bar patron who is at the same bar frequently enough to merit the label. In fact, most regulars go to the same bar every night. Take the show Cheers for example, all of the characters who didn't work there (Norm, Cliff, Frasier) they were all regulars. The song is about the pathetic feelings that accompany regular status and is a reflection upon the dreariness of doing the same things day after day and night after night. Key lyrics: "I take my seat in back with the loudmouths", "A drinkin' buddy that's bound to another town... I'll take a great big whiskey to ya...", "A person can work up a mean, mean thirst after a hard day of nothing much at all."

Hope this helps.
