I have an albino female cory that is about 6 y/o. For the last 2 days she has been sort of laying 1/2 on her side on the bottom of the tank for long periods. She also seems bloated. Usually when she lays eggs, she is very active, so if she is getting ready to lay, something MUST be wrong. If not, does anyone have any other ideas what could be wrong? I will probably not be able to get her to a vet now until Monday, so any help is greatly appreciated.

The other fish (all corys) in the tank seem fine, so I am at a loss.

The first things that come to mind are constipation or dropsy. Constipation could be solved by fasting the fish for a day or two and then feeding with a fairly high fiber food (algae wafers or pellets would be a good source).

Dropsy of course is another matter. That would require treament with a good antibiotic like Furanace and hope the cause is treatable and cureable. Of course, with drospy that's always a big IF.

Now, on top of that 6 years is a pretty good age for a cory.

Many forms of fish do get duller colours at nighttime whilst the lighting fixtures furniture are off, so as that could be what you're seeing. I even have skunk corys and panda corys and that i've got no longer observed that bring about them, whether. it is likewise achievable that your water parameters are different out of your chum's and that could be inflicting rigidity. i'd say till the cory is unwell, boring colours are non everlasting. basically wait some days for him to get used to the recent tank and different water, and because you're including extra corys, that would desire to help too. the different threat is the colour of your substrate; fish tend to get lighter color against a mild colored substrate.

I agree, I'd bet it's old age setting in. I noticed my cories were starting to die off on me. All the parameters are fine. Then it dawned on me, most of them were ones I've had for about 7 years now. And some were medium sized when I bought them, so who knows exactly how old they were initially. But I remember one in particular acted the same way. I thought it was dead, was on it's side, then I tried to net it, and it swam off. Was eating normally and all, then a few days later found it dead. So, I'd say it's probably getting ready to die. And that age, I wouldn't bother with a vet visit. Sorry....

And at six years old your fish can be considered a senior citizen, and is probably coming to the end of her days.

Good luck.
