use acetone, which may damage your ring depending on what kind it is, but probably wont.

My first choice would be nail polish remover.

It may of may not have an effect on the finish of your ring. Some inexpensive rings may have a laquer finish that may be damaged.

nail polish remover. It is not as costic as acetone but takes a little more elbow grease.
