I have found that many people just except things they hear without questioning it. Or believe things because they come from a sourse that is supposed to be trustworthy. Please everyone do your own research, in the words of Jerry Doyle, "Question Everything." Don't be brainwashed.

Those who receive their news from the Major news outlets on the TV are getting Politically biased news ,not the truth.
I listen to the talking Heads on the Radio, and yes they have their political slant and are open about it. They do an excellent job of defending their point of view and backing up their claims. When I get home I go to the computer and look up those news clips the news outlets have provided and compare what I have heard. I will then go to the TV and see how the major new outlets present the news. It is now I decode who is full of it, I laugh or cringe in disgust on how they distort their own news.

Of course, I question everything I hear. I live near Canada. The Canadian media portrays the news in an entirely different light. And the US television news can be just terrible at times. Especially when they catch a story and it turns into a media frenzy. I would say that I read a lot, listen a lot, and come to my own conclusions that I continually revise as the story is going on.

It's not ignorance that is hurting the US the most, I think it's the lack of critical thinking skills. Many generations of Americans have been taught by rote, to listen to authority, not to question those in charge. We have a lot of people who do not think for themselves, either because they don't know how, or are indifferent.

I don't believe much that I hear or see on the media, I like the BBC the best for news. I can't watch the US news on tv since it's just a bunch of sound bites without substance. I read my local paper, since it has a lot of AP reports, check out news on the net, and read different magazines and books.

Good luck!
