PC will always be the cheaper option for a given amount of storage space and processing power, it costs money to shrink the components down to stuff them in a laptop. Also if something breaks on the laptop it costs more to fix and may ruin the computer completely depending on what it is.

You can get the best of both worlds.
Many laptops provide the ability to connect to larger monitors and standard sized keyboards and mice either through ports on the laptop or using a port replicator.
Though desktops are more powerful and easier to work on, you get a lot of freedom whith a laptop. You can take it with you when you travel. If you set up a wireless network at home, you can sit outside and dunka dunka away on the keyboard.
Newer laptops have decent graphics and many have DVD drives so you can watch movies.
You should think about your lifestyle and decide if you want the mobility of a laptop or the processing power of a desktop.

PCs are always better and cheaper than laptops.. Coming to the space criteria laptops may be good. But upgrading , servicing, maintaining a laptop is tedious when compared to doing so in a PC. So PC are always best...

Desktop are usually cheaper, more powerful, and easier to upgrade then laptops.
Laptops have the advantage of being portable, can be used (wirelessly) from anywhere in the house, not stuck to a single desk. And can be take to a friends, work, etc.
It is a personal preference which you want.
