I have a Compaq SR1110NX Presario. I need to restore it to factory defaults but the problem is........ I lost the restore CD. I bought an HP laptop last year (Both computers running Windows XP Home Edition), what would happen if I restored my Compaq with an HP Restore CD?
Pros/Cons Greatly Appreciated.
Thanks,
Rom

I doubt you'd be able to do it in the first place.

Usually, there are codes in the bios that the software recognizes and identifies the PC as a Compaq, HP, or whatever brand it is. If the computer isn't the correct brand, the software on the restore CD will not install.

Usually the best bet is to contact the manufacturer (Compaq) and see how to go about getting a new Restore CD. You'll need the original purchase info or the Serial Number, etc. off your computer labels. Give them a call, it's the best bet.

Good Luck.

The HP CDs uninstall all previous files that were related to HP off your computer, according to what the process says while doing the restore. so i'd think that the old compaq files would remain and try to battle your HP files(as in your programs etc). you can usually phone order the CDs for free, or sometimes a $10 charge.

Nothing. First of all, check if you can find the Compaq restore files on the interent. With luck, hopefully they have put it on there. If not try your HP Restore CD. (Which may not work)

Hope I helped :P

Some computers have a restore to factory settings built into them. When you turn your computer on read the screen before it loads the windoss logo, it will tell you which key it is.

Most of the ones I've seen its F11 or F9, once you find out which key it is press it and it will ask you if you want to restore to factory settings just say yes

If you used the CD from your laptop to restore your desktop it would load all of the dirvers and programs for your laptop onto your desktop, not loading everything for your desktop.

you can purchase a restore disk for your compaq for $31.00 at http://www.computersurgeons.com/shoppingcart/s.htm

scroll down and find your PC and click add to cart and follow the directions

hope this helps
