I realize that most medical schools only accept applicants under the age of 21 and at most 24 (rarely). I think it is ridiculous that they are not accepting mature/older students from universities. So what if someone had been planning out to become a doctor from Gr.7 and go into pre-med programs and turn out to be accepted, what about us? Older people who start to have this new passion of helping people and decide that they too want to become a doctor... and simply because we are older and more mature we cannot get in. I think it is really unfair, doesn't anyone agree? I know some people who had to join the army to get by to become a doctor and your RISKING your life because of the situation in Iraq. I don't think its fair (at all) that younger people should be the ones getting into medical school... its simply not fair and not mature!

What country do you live in? In America, med schools usually accept people in their last year of college (21-24 years old) and quite often admit people who have been out of college for a few years.

The reason "older" people usually don't go to med school is that it requires a huge time commitment of several years (even more if you haven't yet taken your pre-med courses) and while that amount of time in school is acceptable to many young people, older people would rather not put that much time into a career that will only last a few years after they are done with schooling.

While you sound like my five year old whining at the end there, I agree. I am an ER Nurse. The maturity level ofthe doctor can be a really big deal. I went back to finish my nursing degree at 25. I had girls as old as 40+ in my class. Why should it be any different for doctors?

Whjat you're describing is age discrimination...and it's unconstitutional. Apparently some schools DO accept older students. A doctor just opened his practice in my town, who is a new doc and is almost 40

Oh wait! What you are discribing is certain not in America. In American, no matter what age you are you are free to attend college, thus med school. if you serious;y have that desire to help people, i suggest you apply to a med school in America. America harbors freedom of speech, no age discrimination,.etc.. Yep.that's good old America!
