A 10 year old vehicle, that has more then likely never had the coolant changed, the rad cooling tubes are corroded. Remove the radiator & have it professionally flushed out & pressure checked.

FIRST OF ALL CHECK YOUR COOLANT AND SEE IF IT'S LOW. IF IT IS IT COULD BE A WATER PUMP BUT IF IT'S A QUAD FOUR ENGINE IT WELL MAY BE A HEAD GASKET.THIS ENGINE IS KNOWN FOR THAT BUT IF IT'S A 3.1 IT COULD BE AN INTAKE LEAK.HAVE A SHOP DO A PRESSURE TEST OF YOUR COOLING SYSTEM AND THAT SHOULD ANSWER YOUR QUESTION. IF YOUR COOLANT IS LOW BE SURE TO ADD SOME BEFORE DRIVING IT AGAIN. IT WILL BE A YELLOW BOTTLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS NOT HOT WHEN YOU OPEN THE TANK.

Well before you try and changing the water pump try this first. Drain all the anti-freeze and water out of the radiator and flush it out then put some new anti-freeze and water in it and if that doesn't work you need a water pump.

Water pump...the coolant has to circulate.

Is there a rusty looking residue in the radiator/overflow tank? The system may need a good flush...

have an auto parts store or oil change place use an OBD1 sensor that plugs in under your steering wheel, it spits out codes. it sounds like your water pump. have it checked first.

have autozone run a code scan to tell you for sure - they will do it for free tell you code meaning name of part cost of part and so on most cost effective way to deal with it .
