I mean , I dont control what these big mulitinational companies that are based here are doing and I cant help that the government is controlled by it.

And I cant control the media and how it effects the way people think and act.

I just live here!

By the way, a good many of "Americans" are from European ancestry. Many are from Scotland, Ireland ( George W. is Scottish and Irish) and Germany and Scandinavia.

So is the media maybe brainwashing people over there as well about "America" or what is the deal?

p.s. I know everybody is tired of this issue, but so am I , it just keeps coming up. Some stupid , ignorant British person (most I like btw) will answer a question I ask with "Are you an American?.. erm, get back to you."

I don't think the British do, not really. I'm amazed at the insults on here towards Americans (I'm British) as I have not come across this before generally. I think it's just something to use on here to wind people up. Anyone who has been to America will know the people are really nice, so the insults are obviously coming from ignorant people who have never been to the USA, so clearly do not really believe their own insults. I hate the fact that people on here give the impression that the British do not like Americans as that simply isn't true. I don't think the media is brainwashing people - the British seem to love to hate and anyone will do, be it Asian or American. Quite sad really, we're not all like that, in fact I think the vast majority aren't.

I think anti-American sentiment isn't particularly targetted at the individual. (Sure, if you ask a question like "Why does everyone hate Americans?" then you'll get answers specifically directed at the populous. But that's because the respondents are either generalising through lack of effort, they simply don't know how to frame their response, or they consider your question an open invitation to attack the querent or content - which happens a lot on Yahoo! Answers.)

Anti-American sentiment, however, is nothing new, and became particularly prevalent during the Cold War - and for good reason. While it's true that Americana idealises democracy, that democracy is merely a vehicle for capitalist imperialism at a corporate - NOT a national - level. (Most wealth generated by the hands of the many go into the hands of the few.) It's this insatiable thrust for private fiscal wealth that motivates so much of American foreign policy, and it is these foreign policies that spark anti-American sentiment.

In short, so much of the world sees successive American administrations as bullies. The bully. And nobody likes a bully. Sorry.

For what it's worth, I do agree with some of the points that Milk and neal9jsg makes, but that doesn't mean I hate you, your family, your friends, your neighbours, your dog, your coffee maker... However I do believe that society and civilisation will eventually crumble and fall under American greed - as is happening in Iraq, right now. But then again, sh!t happens.

"EVERYONE" does not "HATE" Americans. Just like "EVERYONE" does not "HATE" Brits.
We all have our opinions.
I was over in England about 2 years ago, and it seemed that there were as many people who liked us as disliked us.
I think as far as Brits go, it's divided about right down the center. Those who support Blair like us, those who don't, dislike us.
It's the same here in the states.
As far as other countries go, the only other 2 ,that I can say with any real assurance(according to the media;), that seem to dislike us are N.Korea, and Argentina.......hmmmmmmm go figure......One's looking for a popular vote, and the other a larger stature.
We are all made exactly the same way, with some small exceptions......skin color, hair texture......so why do you have to stir the pot and produce hatred?
There's already enough, but when you get a little older and more mature, you'll understand.

Well I'm a Brit and I don't hate Americans! I like the Majority of ordinary Americans I meet, I don't like others but it's not because they are American. I've been treated exactly the same way as you by some of them, should I ask why does everyone hate us? I know the answer already. They don't. It's not being American or British or any other Race it's being pre-judged against by a minority!
It's human nature at it's worst and you are as quilty as any. You say some stupid ignorant Brit and judge us all on their behaviour. They are stupid ignorant people I agree but why not judge the rest of us on the 'ones you like by the way' they don't hate you yet they are part of your 'Every'one.

I'm an American, most people hate America because they think the U.S. is not making some helpful decisions, people think that the more people who go to war and the more taxes that are building is going to cause more trouble, are taxes are going to the most ridiculous stuff anyways which is true, but the most American haters are immigrants who think America is being mean beacuse they will not let them in the U.S. legally, most people depend on the president to make the right decision but it's not always the president, theres the government and the congress who also make rightful decisions too, the U.S. needs to start making wise decisons and help communities and people within it and if they don't then problems build up and people get angry and stuff, the U.S. needs to becareful with the laws they put out and spend our taxes wisely, the U.S. to me is okay it's said to be a rich country, well I hope that answered your question I truly treid... Have a nice day! :)

We aren't manipulated in to our dislike of America. It's mostly just the fact that Americans are soooooooo unaware of what is going on outside their own country. There are a few Americans that I've met when I was travelling that I really liked but most of those we encounter in the UK or on here in Y!A can be really over the top.

For those of us who are Military or Ex-Military, forming a distrust of Americans is an occupational hazard. Most of us have experienced the unprofessional, revenge seeking, gung ho streak in US troops and we don't like it. It's that streak of madness that bothers us as it leads to horrendous errors of judgement. Errors of judgement aren't so good in war.

I'm sorry if that bothers you but if you want to know where the blame lies for America's bad reputation, look around you at your fellow countrymen. While it is a good thing to take pride in your country, taking excessive pride and believing that your nation can do no wrong is a dangerous path for any nation to take. If it stays in that country - fair enough, no problem. When it involves other counties, it's a problem for the world.

America seems to want to get it's guns out any time we say they are wrong. You should get used to the fact of criticism as US foreign policy is leading to further war.

Do you think anti American feeling will just go away? It will get much worse with continuing aggressive actions in other countries. America the country is building itself a huge enemy hoard composing of the rest of the world. Nobody likes a bully and America is THE Imperialist bully in the world today.

I suggest you click on the other countries news articles and see what's going on elsewhere. And take a look at how other countries view America's actions. It personally bothers me to have my country involved in illegal invasions of countries like Iraq and no doubt future action against Iran and Syria. The American people are manipulated by the press to believe that outside forces are the bad guys which allows your Government to attack other countries without many of you raising objections. You do need to take a step back and look at the devastation America and Americanisation causes - the poverty, deprivation, atrocity, murder and genocide. It's not all America's fault but America currently plays the largest part in all of it either directly or by supplying weapons etc.

The Arms trade is still your biggest trade.

I'm not proud of the part my country plays in any of this and nor should you be.

"wow....I wonder how they would feel if we stopped supporting them and saving the people of these countries.....we all pay the price for that....hmmmmm"

- I rest my case, when did America start "supporting them and saving the people of these countries"? Iraq is more violent now than it ever was under Saddam. Even the most stupid person wouldn't believe that to be a success story.

We don't hate America or Americans, we dislike what it/they do. So we take the piss out of you.

Lot's will thumbs down me and that proves my point.

I don't think everyone hates Americans. I don't know any to hate.
The general concensus of alot of people is that America tries to run the world. So unfortunately as Americans you get blamed.
America does seem to think that it is better then anywhere else and thrusts its opinions down others throats and due to its size and armaments other countries are afriad of it.
I think though that as a generalisation they hate your government - but blame its citizens. Its not fair and its not right - but thats the way of existence.
If it means anything I don't hate you. ;)

I'm not putting you down. How dare you bloody well class us Brits as all being the same ! We don't class you and your countrymen (and woman) as all being the same. What's brought this on, and why pick on us? I'm not stupid or ignorant and I decide whether or not I like people by their personality, not by an accent or if you have the stars and stripes tattooed across your nose. Just calm down !

I think it's because they're jealous. We Americans are so stinkin' lucky! Just think. All of us who are reading this are fortunate to have a computer, a house, a great place to live, and electricity. Many, many people can't afford those things. But I do agree with the people who wonder why they all flock in to this country if they hate Americans. Maybe it's because of the saying, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" Getting back to the computer thing, did you know that if you own a computer, you are richer than most of the world?
