Before you uninstall, why not see if it is working properly?

To open Device Manager, click Start,
point to Settings,
and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
On the Hardware tab,
click Device Manager.
Right-cl the item to be checked and select Properties.

You should be told whether or not the item is working properly. You can also update the driver from here.

If it is working properly, you may have autorun off.
Insert the CD
open My Computer
double-click the drive for your CD (probably D)

well 1st of all check to see if the cd is scrathed or damaged. thats the main reason why, 2nd your cd drive could be messed up.

try this,

1.)right click my computer
2.)go to device manager
3.)click the hardware tab
4.)go to device manager
5.)go to the cd drive drop down
6.)right click the cd drive and uninstall
7.) reboot your computer and the cd drive drivers will reinstall.

note:this wont harm your computer unless the cd drive is bad

hope this helps

Check the jumper. If the new CD drive is the second device on the IDE cable it will usually be set as slave (SL).
