you can get an epidural that numbs your bottom half, when numb the make the incisions just below your bikini line, and then start pulling and tugging to pull baby out within minutes of being cut

There are two reasons for a C-section and these reasons determine how a C- Section is performed:
One reason for a C-section is that the baby either can not or will not proceed through the birth canal and the baby and mom are not in distress. in this event a small horizontal incesion is made after a local anesthetic in combination with an epidural/spinal block is applied. Once throught the incission the placentia is pulled from the womb, cut to extract the baby, then examined and eventually removed. Mothers womb is inspected and then closed if no problems are noted.
The other C-section is an emergency C-section. This is done when mom and or baby are in distress. In this event the mother is put completely to sleep and a large vertical incision is made to extract the baby. In this type of procedure speed is the crucial element and that being said more trauma is endured by the mother. This results in a larger scar. Baby and placentia are removed examined. Trauma is assesed and treated.

I work in the operating room and I've seen a few c-sections. They do not put the mother to sleep. She is given what they call a spinal block, which nums the patient from about the breasts all the way down to the feet. The doctor cuts down through the layers of fat and muscle to the uterus. He then cuts through the uterus slightly, but not all the way because if he goes to far, the baby could be cut. He the opens the uterus the rest of the way by tearing where he cut and then the baby is pulled out. I've never been through one but I'm pregnant with my first and hope that I don't have to have one. Recovery time is much longer for a c-section. Hope I helped!

All three of my daughters have come into this world by c-section! All have been different.
I have been awake for all three!
The first was an emergency section, my daughter came out after 78 hours labor! DO NOT remeber much there!
The second...tried could not have her, they upped my spinal block which hit from about the belly button down. Did not feel anything, other than an akward feeling that my leg was falling off the table and I could not lift it up my self! They did not believe me until it started to really slip off!
The third, we had schedualed because after the second one we found out I could only delivery my c-section. I would say it was my most scarey one! BECAUSE I did not try first for a natural birth with this one, when you try and can not you sorta have a "unkowning" feeling of what is goin to take place because of trying to have a baby and working so hard and then not be able to, just ready for that baby to meet the world! It was more nerve racking but a wonderful, awesome feeling to first hear that baby cry!
I would do it every time over with out question! it is worth all the pain!

I'm not sure if you want the details or not, but I will tell you anyway. First the doctors give you pain meds, and then they put numbing cream on your stomach. Then, they put up a curtain so you can't see anything (thank god) After, they use surgical scissors to cut open your stomach (i know youre thinking "ew!" because thats what I thought when I first learned I was a survivor preemie from a C-section) and they pull the baby out of your uterus and they give it oxygen, and they sew you back up. And, no I havent been through one, but my mom has and she said it didnt really hurt and that youre so excited about having a new baby that you dont care that theyre cutting up your stomach. Anyway, whatever you needed this for, hope I could help!

My daughter had one after hours of labour showed some-thing could go wrong if they didn't rush.
They give the woman some-thing that keeps her awake
-but she feels no pain
-she doesn't care -shes sedated
-she feels GOOD really GOOD
You have a screen put up in front of your face
- so you do not have to look if you don't want to
The anaethetist makes a lot of fuss, keeps you talking
- makes sure you are O.K.
- keeps adjusting every-thing every second so you are at happiest.
My daughter watched through mirrors placed so you can see what you want
She chose to watch her husband's face.
She said when her husband saw their baby - his face was the most beautiful thing she has ever seen
He looked like he had received all his birthday and Christmas presents; all his X boxes past and future; all the best toys he could ever have ALL at once - as he looked with such INTENSE LOVE at his baby daughter.
She said as it finished she just felt so good and her body felt rested.
The next day her body did ache
A week later the scar itched.
Overall she said much better than she excpected
GOOD LUCK - No need for fear

yes i have had a c-section and you have the choice whether you go to sleep or stay awake .there are two ways to perform a section 1 is to put you asleep and take them baby out .the second is to have a needle in your back (the one i had) and this numbs all of your lower body for about an hour.(You are fully awake) and they put a screen up about just above your bump.so you carnt see anything and they cut along the line where your baby hangs down just under the bikini line about 4 inches along .then they break the water bag the baby is in and cut this to reach in to get the baby out.after all this they then stitch you up and go into a recovery room until you start getting feelings back into your legs.

You are not asleep, just numb from the breast down. They place a spinal and give you sedatives through that, then they strap you to a table flat on your back with your arms stretched out beside you also strapped to the table. You have a drape in front of your face so you cant see anything, The whole thing last maybe 20 mins, It really felt like 5 mins.

First they stick a long needle in your back with Anestasia, they just put half of your body asleep, so your practically paralyzed from the waist down, The they do the surgery, there is no pain you just feel it then the stitch you up and you stay in the hospital until full recovery,
