I think that that is all in our past and that is something that we tell our kids that we were able to do when we was younger.

Are we looking at a 'for real', or a fictional place? Realistically speaking, you can let your kids play outside and sleep with the windows open ANYWHERE. (If you live in an apartment, chances are pretty good that eventually the two will cross paths! Kids LOVE open windows as a source of entertainment, especially as the window height from the ground ratio increases!) Now, if you want to be able to accomplish these two tasks in SAFETY, we're not authorized to reveal the locations where this can be done.

I am thinking you are looking for a place like Mayberry on the Andy Griffith Show. Somewhere here in th US. They are really getting few and far between. I am really happy where I live, but it is not Mayberry. I live in North Yuba City, California. I do sleep with my windows open and kids do play in their front yards and dont have to worry about putting their bikes away at night. A place that I recently visited in Texas seemed safer and quieter than here by far. It was a little town called Lexington. It was very small but was close enough to the bigger towns that also seemed nice of Rockdale and Giddings. It is about 60 miles from Austin. Also a bonus is that real estate is very affordable. - just saw the question and thought I'd offer what I knew.

Many small towns in the US have this level of safety. I've stayed in motels in small towns which actually have regularly opening windows with screens.
Even in most of suburbia, there is a great degree of safety. The number of stranger abductions has been constant for many, many years, contrary to popular belief. Most abductions, and all of the increase, comes from family abductions. Kids play safely in their own backyards all over the country. They certainly don't wander as freely as previous generations did, but a modest amount of parental care can provide a great deal of safety. That is no consolation for the very tiny number (about 100 annually) of families who are touched by stranger abductions.

Sadly, that is a scenario that is becoming fewer and farther between. Luckily, I still live in an area where we can play outside all the time. And we always leave our windows open at night for fresh air, (From spring thru fall, anyways) I live in the country, with a menagerie of animals, as well.

We sleep with the windows open here in the summer, but never let kids go outside without supervision, us moms in the neighborhood all watch each other's children to make sure they're safe.

yes but you would have to move all the way to sunny northern Ireland!! My 2 kids play out all day and only come into eat, there is a group of about 10 of them aged between 5 and 10 yrs old.
I leave my upstairs windows open overnite but have on occasion left the downstairs back ones open too.
Come on over!!

Even though they say that Simi Valley is really safe, I think that's going down hill.... there were 3 attempted kidnappings here in the last two weeks, and my little sister was one of them. I'd suggest going to a small rural town out in the middle of nowhere.
