that is simply you're impression.

depression is a serious mental illness, that can only be treated by trained professionals.

Seeking help from friends or relatives is pointless, unless they are mental health professionals.

Depression is treatable, usually through medication and counseling.

I believe because we are dealing with more a spiritual issue than a mental issue, and that can be a tough challenge especially if a person is a non believer of the word of GOD, and because we are spiritual beings living a human life &having human experiances it is quiet difficult to explain this to the general society as a whole, and since doctors are really scientist that study the human mind and body they only go by what they see, and it becomes even more challangeing in nature however with other conditions or disease such as drug abuse and gambling the spirtual principle are applied and then the healing begins and yet we don't normaly invovle GOD in the process of Mental health first, yet the bible speaks on spirits and depression.

Unfortunately, I think many people have the attitude of "get over it" and move on. Some people actually think it is up to you to make yourself happy or sad and I know that's not true. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain and no matter how hard you try or how positive you think, if you have clinical depression, there is nothing you can do other than to seek help from a Doctor. My mother in law is one of those people who says, well just go take a walk or pick yourself up and say I'm happy. She just doesn't get it, but then she's from another generation and was raised completely different.....back when you didn't talk about depression or anxiety, you just suffered through it. I think the more depression is talked about and written about, more people will come to understand what it's all about. Also, alot of people just don't know what to say or how to act around someone who is depressed. They just need to learn that all we need is someone to listen and to not judge us or blame us, just be supportive.

Because 1. People probably don't know the problem going on the other person's life. 2. because all the depression going on the person's life is really bringing them down and they probably want to be by themselves & 3. well, give them space! Probably the reason why they want to be by themselves is that people are always annoying them with what's wrong?

Because of the gaps and barriers in the insurance idustry and the pressures we place on people in our fast pase society.
Insurance agencies usually do not pay for Psycjologists/Nuerologists to run CAT scans, SQUIDS, or MRI's to get a proper look inside people's brains so they fill out surveys and often get misdiagnosed.

I think the rise of suicide comes down to not having enough time to sleep and eat good food. We all have to work so much, we have little vacation time and most have to go to school as well. We live in hard times and it's hard to relax. Sleep deprivation, poor diet, lack of spending time with family. They all cause depression.

Interesting question. I think a lot of people are afraid of saying the wrong thing and making the situation worse. The other half of the population think that the person ought to be able to help themselves and stop complaining.
