--Make a mistake or over do it (raise/lower the ports to much) and you can throw away the cylinder. It's a lot of trial and error to get the porting correct for optimum performance on each individual bike. Shops that do porting work, have done it many times and know what specs work for each motor. So I don't advise you to attempt this kind of work unless you have a lot of spare time and deep pockets (money).
--Don't polish the intake port. You can smooth it out a little to get rid of the bumps and road blocks. It should be a little rough to swirl up the fuel mixture.
--Polish the exhaust port with a dremel and polishing wheels. It makes the port smooth and slippery, to let the exhaust escape faster.

Other than simple deburring and removal of casting flaws....Dont....2-stroke porting is cheap and there are too many variables to take into consideration when modifying a 2-stroke for a novice to have much chance at success....Small changes can make big differences in performance both good and bad...Most gains are made in the transfer ports... requiring special tools to even reach...with variables such as port area, port height, port angles, fuel type, riding styles, compression, etc.. Its not worth the small potential gains to risk hurting performance or even worse.....ruining a good cylinder...

I do NOT recommend trying this on your own. While the actual work isn't that difficult. The tolerances are very tight, and a simple mistake could ruin your cylinder.

Pay the money to have it professionally done.

Same way as you do a 4 stroke one, one stroke at a time. But hey if you only have a 2 stroke then you getter done in half the time!!! Wow, she must be dissapointed in that.
