You'd have to poll them, wouldn't you, to learn the truth? You would, however, expect to find more scientists of various persuasions who are atheistic than you would discover among the general population, omitting theologists from the ranks of atheists, obviously!! I think that a person whose work is research in the physical, chemical, and mathematical sciences, but particularly in astronomy (as opposed to biology which might more easily be credited to "intelligent design") where theories of the origin of the Cosmos abound and must be proven to be viable, would be more likely, at least, to question the existence of a Creator (God) in view of his or her intellectual nature and habit of examining the concepts which many of us lay peiople regard as reality...

I don't think that there is a bias toward being religious or atheistic with a discipline. I would guess, if pressed, that physicist are more atheistic. I might add- since people posing this question often have Creation as a point of difference- that to believe or disbelieve in Creation is not necessary being religious or athesitic.

It's mostly the ones that are good at understanding what they do, regard less of specific discipline.

Should a cancer baby doctor believe God is there?

Should NASA folks believe God is "looking after" the crew on the Challenger?

Should microbiologists dealing with infected Nigerian children believe that God isn't responsible for the worms in their eyes?

most likely Biologists

studying life, origin, evolution, and other topics in that field kinda of go against the belief in God

then again......it may just strengthen there belief in God

who knows though
it varies from person to person regardless of career
