To clear the dust out, you need some called air duster, you can get it pretty much any place that sells computer accessories. As for a dell manul, you should be able to get one right off the dell web site and view it right from the computer.

oh my. I too have a inspiron. They should of gone with HP but no biggie. YES clean it ALL out with the cans of air (its like $5; charge the school). also, i am use to my adapter melting plastic so yeah, It could be the motherboard (aka the nervous system of a computer) ask the school if they have a warranty or a tech guy for that, or switch different varieties of frozen veggies under a dish cloth. It kept my laptop from melting anything else. (Note: I think your adapter/battery might be recalled, of course dell wont say it is but all of their laptops overheat and melt things. I went through 3 adapters, and a battery.... and a few plastic bags o__o;;

Hope it helps

The quick method it so blow out the cooling vents with compressed air and use a vcacuum to help such out the lint. This will work only if it's dirt causing the problem.

But your fan might be broken. If broke, it needs to be replaced asap! Will take a tech to replace it.

Report it immediately. Not your fault.

One of my friends is specialist in laptop support and he just wrote an article about this:

You can read it at his blog: http://blog.laptop-support.net/?p=12

The Dell service manuals are available in the support section of your Dell laptop website. You just need to enter the model of your laptop and you will have access to all the downloads, upgrades and service manuals.

If it belong's to the school why not exchange it or let them fix it?I would let them mess with it if it's there's.Sure you could do it but you could also mess it up,and then pay for it.Just take it back.
