how do you become an actress?

is it possible to become one without an agent? can you just start out with commercails and work your way up to an actress? if so, how can i get in a commercail?

Don't be fooled by all the stories you hear about people getting their big break by walking down the street and some casting agent spots them and casts them in a movie. That's extremely slim. Basically, it's not going to happen to you so don't even consider it.

You don't need an agent but imagine you're in a vast room that is as wide as a football field and it's filled with people. The room is pitch black and one person is looking for someone for a part. The agents have flashlights and shine their flashlights on their clients. If you have no agent, you're just standing their in the dark and the chances of that casting agent or director finding you are very slim. With an agent, you have a better shot. Nothing is guaranteed of course but at least you'll be seen on occassion.

I suppose it's possible to be "discovered" and begin working on film and commercials without an agent, but it's definitely easier to do so with one! Agents can do the hard stuff for you and research auditions or casting calls for you, as well as, arrange the little details.

I would recommend getting involved in the theatre "circle" around your community. Audition for some plays and introduce yourself to some well-known directors/producers/etc in your area. It's ALL about who you know.

of course you can be an actress without an agent: plays, musicals..etc, but i can sense the immaturity in you question and know that what your looking for is fame and fortune...besides, you don't become an actor...your not suddenly going to BECOME amazing at everything.

do local theatre
don't take the easy way out.
